Product Review!

Hey guys!

So I ended up only using one of the products from the Target Beauty Bag this past weekend. (I will review the others as I use them. ;)

Aveeno Smart Essentials: Daily Detoxifying Scrub

My thoughts:

I like the clean feeling of this scrub. I was pretty impressed with this product. I'm a big Biore fan, so I wasn't sure about how I would feel about it, but I would be willing to use this as an alternate. It leaves your skin feeling baby soft and oh so clean! I recommend that all of my friends that haven't, go to the Target website and see if you can get hooked up with the Target Summer Beauty bag. If you do, let me know what you think of this product. Thanks!

Ruthless Review

A's baaaaaaaaccccccck!

This series is crazy addictive! Unfortunately, there seems to be no end in sight. There will be at least 2 more books. I'm so hooked, that I will keep reading and reviewing for my own enjoyment...lol.

As always SPOILERS below. If you plan to read the series or are not interested, be sure to check out other posts from this week. :)

The girls are feeling guilt over Tabitha's death, which is making each of them act out in different ways.

Aria: As predicted, Ezra returns. (to the happiness of some readers) I don't know, but common sense to me says that this relationship was doomed from the start. (I think I was naive at the start, and wanted them to be together, but after the first separation....it was clear to me.) So I got a little ahead of myself, after all the drama from the last book, Noel breaks up with Aria and starts dating Klaudia. *hiss* Just like a magnet, Ezra comes waltzing back into the picture, desiring to rekindle his relationship with Aria. Things are clearly not the same and end with Aria catching Klaudia with Ezra. Noel and Aria make up. (I'm not entirely sure if this relationship will last.)

Emily: Emily meets a girl named Kelsey at a party. They instantly connect and quickly become best friends. This relationship does not make Spencer happy. (This is explained further in Spencer's part of the story)

Hanna: While helping with her dad's campaign, Hanna meets a guy named Liam and falls hard for him. She finds out early on that he is the son of her father's opponent and continues with the relationship. She later learns that her Romeo is really a Casanova and dumps him. She reveals to her father some secrets she learned from Liam about his father, in hopes of revenge and a successful campaign run. Kate also shows a different side to herself, by agreeing to help seek revenge on Liam. (This is due to her having a boy do the same thing to her)

Spencer: Spencer attends some AP classes at The University of Pennsylvania. There she meets a girl named Kelsey and they become fast friends. The girls soon discover "Easy A" a speed pill that the girls believe help them with their studies. One night, the girls run out of their pills and seek out a dealer. The girls get pulled over by the cops on their way back to campus. The girls get interrogated and Spencer terrified of the consequences pins the whole thing on Kelsey. She does this by getting Hanna to plant pills in her room. This is why Spencer is understandably upset with Emily's new friendship. Spencer and Emily have a huge fight over Kelsey. Emily is so upset that she reveals to Kelsey that Spencer framed her. Kelsey gets very upset and jumps in her car, Emily concerned joins her. Kelsey drives Emily to a familiar spot, Floating Man's Quarry. (this is where Mona Vanderwaal died) There is a struggle and then Kelsey decides to kill herself. She suffers a nasty fall, and ends up getting sent to The Preserve. (the same center Hanna and Alison were sent to) This leaves the girls thinking that Kelsey was -A and their troubles are over. (Not so fast!) The girls get a text with a picture of Tabitha's body washed up on the beach. The girls decide they need to find out how much Kelsey actually knows. They discover that Kelsey did know about Spencer when she met Emily. They also discovered that Kelsey had another stash of drugs hidden in her room, so Spencer sped up the process of her ending up in juvie. The girls left with heavy hearts and few answers. The book ends with one of the girls turning and seeing a memorial bench, the girls are horrified to discover that the name on the bench was Tabitha. She was a patient at one of The Preserve centers! The book ends yet again with many questions.

Honestly, the only thing that keeps me reading is the need to know the ending...lol. The girls stories were not as strong. Ezra coming back seemed stiff and uneventful. Emily comes off again being very naive and ignorant for someone who has been through so much. You would think she would have some trust issues. I actually had high hopes for Hanna's relationship even though it was star-crossed. Oh well! Spencer has got to be the slimiest most spineless of all the characters. She just keeps getting darker and darker. She seems to approach a level almost equivalent to -A's. (I guess they all have, but hers is easier for me to see.)

Next up!

* Currently on book shelves there is a book titled, Pretty Little Secrets, it contains short stories revealing more of the girl's secrets.

* The next book in the series, Stunning,  is scheduled to be released June 5, 2012. This book will mainly revolve around Emily. (Twisted was a group secret, Ruthless was Spencer's secret and the books to follow will cover Hanna and Aria's secrets.) Maya was not in this book, but I imagine she will probably pop up in this book since it is about Emily's secret.  You can learn more information on Stunning here.

More reviews to come as I read through the series!

Sisterhood Everlasting review

Hey everyone,

I was so excited when I learned that Ann Brashares was writing a new Sisterhood of the Traveling pants book. I loved that series from the beginning and couldn't wait to find out what had happened to our favorite sisterhood, ten years later! As always, this review contains SPOILERS, so if you don't want to ruin the surprise, check out one of my other posts! :)

As life goes, the women of the sisterhood are all living their own lives and not really keeping in touch as much. Carmen is a budding actress, Tibby is living in Australia with Brian, Lena is teaching art classes, and Bridget is as free-spirited as ever. The chaos of life gets interrupted, when Carmen, Lena, and Bridget get a package from Tibby. Tibby has bought them all tickets to Greece for a reunion. All of the girls are excited and can't wait to reconnect.

That is until they arrive in Greece and disaster strikes. Tibby is missing and a body has been found. The girls can't absorb the news. How can one of their own be taken from them, in such a tragic way?! The police say Tibby drowned, but the girls find letters addressed to them. Throughout the book, the girls open the letters, they are addressed to be open at various times. This leaves the girls to wonder how well they knew one another and if Tibby killed herself...?

The girls deal with Tibby's death in different ways. Carmen wraps herself up in a wedding to a man she doesn't love. Bridget runs away and learns that she is pregnant. Lena mourns for her friend and her lost love Kostos. (The man she never stopped loving.) It takes some time but Carmen is able to realize that she is making a huge mistake from an unexpected delay on a train. Bridget travels to Australia and learns that Tibby has a daughter named Bailey. This helps her to realize that she can be a mother and wants to have a family with Eric. Lena finally confesses her love for Kostos.

The book ends with the girls learning that Tibby did not kill herself. Brian shares with Bridget that Tibby had a degenerative disease. She wanted to see the girls even though she was truly too weak to travel. Brian and Tibby had planned to introduce Bailey and have a big wedding in the states soon after their Greece reunion. Tibby had picked out a farm house in Pennsylvania, Bridget had helped them move in. Carmen and Lena had letters asking them to meet at the house. Tibby had chosen a place that had enough room for the girls to each have a place to stay whenever they wanted. Carmen ends the book talking about reconnecting with the ones she loves. Bridget is excited about raising her baby alongside Bailey. Lena and Kostos decide to live together---no one knows if they will stick around, but they will always come back. Tibby's parents also have a place and are thrilled to learn about Bailey.

I really enjoyed this book. I was upset to hear of Tibby's death and didn't like the thought of her being suicidal. It just didn't seem in her nature and Tibby and Brian seemed to fit so well together. It would have been horribly inappropriate if it had been written that Brian pushed her into it. I felt especially sad for Carmen's character, it seemed that she had changed the most and not for the better. It was nice to see a glimmer of her old self in the end. I thought it was interesting that Ann chose Bridget's character to deal with a pregnancy. It seemed to be a pretty wise choice, Bridget thought herself not to be very maternal, but it seems she was made to be a mother. I was very happy to see Lena and Kostos finally together, a long time coming if you asked me! ;) I think Ms. Brashares did an excellent job of wrapping this series up. John jokes that she will write another book about them being old ladies. XD I honestly don't think so, but if she did, I would read it. She has a way of writing characters that you identify with and root for.

Has anyone else read this series? What are your thoughts? If not, do you have any reading recommendations?

Twisted Review

Hey all,

I'm back to review Twisted! The most recent book in the PLL series. I read this book in two days...craziness! As always, this post contains SPOILERS!

Twisted skips ahead to the girls senior year in high school. The girls are still keeping secrets and there is still plenty of drama. The biggest being what happened on their spring break trip to Jamaica last year. The girl's memories resurface throughout the book. We learn that Emily sees a girl who looks like Ali. All of the girls have various interaction with her and she even invites them up to the roof of the hotel, to hangout. The girls of course are freaked, but confront her. "Ali" tries to to push Hanna off the roof, but in self defense Aria pushes Ali off. The girls look for Ali's body, but never find it. So much for getting away from the drama....

This leaves the girls uncomfortable and obviously scared. The girls begin to spend less and less time together. Plus they have their own drama to contend with.

Aria is struggling to deal with her boyfriend's foreign exchange student, Klaudia. Aria is sure that she is trying to still Noel away. This causes a rift between her and Noel, so she decides to try and befriend Klaudia. This causes Aria to learn that her worries were just and there is a dramatic fight with Klaudia, leaving Klaudia injured after falling from a ski lift. Noel is very upset and seems to side with Klaudia. Aria's part in the story ends with a evil smiling Klaudia, this leaves us to wonder what will Klaudia do next?

Emily becomes friend's with the new girl, Chloe, she just so happens to be moving into Jenna Cavanaugh's place. Emily babysits for Chloe's little sister, Grace. Through this we learn that Emily was pregnant over the summer with a baby girl. (Isaac, her ex being the father) She explains that she took the swim season off and went to Pennsylvania to give birth. She put the child up for adoption, the only person from her family that knew was her older sister. Emily's dreams of getting a swim scholarship are mostly shattered, but Chloe's father offers to help. He also hits on Emily. Chloe finds out and thinks that Emily is trying to wreck her family. Even though her father had cheated before. Emily doesn't tell Chloe what really happened and Chloe threatens to reveal Emily's secret.

Hanna's father is running for Senator of Pennsylvania. While filming a campaign commercial, one of the photographer's offers Hanna a modeling gig. Mike, Hanna's bf, thinks the guy is creepy and just wants to hit on Hanna. She of course, disagrees and sets up an appointment for the photo shoot. The photographer, aka a creep, gets some naughty pictures of Hanna. He uses this as blackmail and Hanna has to come up with the money to save her dad's campaign. She is too embarrassed to tell her dad what really happened. So she steals money from his campaign and pins it on her dad's assistant.

Spencer's mother is dating again and it's become serious. Spencer and Melissa are asked to come to dinner and meet the mystery man, as well as his two children. Spencer meets a very attractive young man at the bar, who she later finds out will be her new step brother. Spencer decides to act on her feelings and learns that Zach is gay. The night Spencer's mother announces their engagement, Zach and Spencer decide to celebrate with a few drinks, they end up falling asleep in the same bed. Zach's father finds them together and is furious. He assumes they slept together. Spencer becomes terrified when Zach's father begins hitting him. She shouts (without thinking) that Zach didn't sleep with her and that he was gay. Zach was not ready for this to be revealed and is furious with Spencer. He is also upset because his father decides to send him away to military school. He obviously could not take the news. We also learn that Spencer has another secret about how she got into Princeton.

The book ends with all of the girls coming together. They had all been receiving new -A texts. They were also all together for a big announcement. A girl's body had washed ashore in Jamaica. The girl that had looked so much like Ali, wasn't Ali. The girls were shocked to learn they had killed an innocent girl!

This book was pretty good. It wasn't the best of the series, but it kept you reading. The story lines were not as interesting. I think the thing that kept me reading---was wondering what would/could happen next and if a happy ending were possible?

The next book, Ruthless, will be released December 6th. We will have to wait until then to see what could possibly happen next?! It's been posted that Ezra and Maya will be returning.

Wanted Review

Hey everyone,

I know it's been a few weeks since my last review, but I'm back! So sit back with a cool refreshing drink of choice and enjoy this review. As -A would say "It's not over until I say it's over."

As always this post contains SPOILERS! Be sure to check out my previous PLL reviews and if you haven't read the book or this isn't your cup of tea, be sure to check out previous posts! :)

In Wanted, the girls discover that Ali has a twin! This twin, Courtney, was put away because she had some "health issues." The girls are unsure of what to think of Ali's twin and the flood of memories of Ali that return. Aria is especially wary of her. Courtney is able to connect with the other girls and eventually Aria gives in. While everything is cool and shiny, Courtney decides to drop a bomb on the girls...(not literally) lol. Courtney reveals that she is Ali and that Courtney was the one that died all those years ago. The girls are not entirely convinced of this at first, but "Ali" is able to provide proof of all this. The girls are so excited to have their bestie back that they quickly agree to join her in the Poconos for a fun girls weekend, after the big dance. Spencer gets a phone call informing her that her sister is missing, this scares her because she has a strong suspicion that Melissa killed "Ali."

This suspicion disappears when it is revealed that Ali was the killer! The girls never truly knew Ali, Courtney was the twin they had known and loved. Ali had killed Courtney because she felt that she had ruined her life. We also learn that she had tried to kill the girls in the forest fire and after revealing this set the house they were staying in on fire. The girls are able to escape, after discovering Ian's body and Melissa tied up in the same closet. The police show up and believe that Ali is dead, but her body is nowhere to be found. The police also now know that Alison also killed Jenna.

The book ends with:

Hanna's mother returning and Hanna and Mike getting back together.

Meredith gives birth to a baby girl.

Aria and Noel Kahn get back together.

Ella breaks up with Xavier after finding out his true colors.

Melissa and Spencer grow closer after their near death experience.

Spencer is given hope for her family, regardless of whether her parents divorce.

Emily buries everything that reminds her of Ali at Courtney's grave...but hears something in the distance...leaving the book open for future books...bringing us to the release of Twisted!

I really enjoyed this book. The addition of a twin was surprising and intriguing. It also made you wonder about Ali and Courtney's parents. If one of the twin's has mental issues, shouldn't you visit them? Rather than them come home and switch with the other...and shouldn't you of all people be able to tell them apart?! In my opinion, both of the girls are disturbed and needed help. Although if that had happened, we wouldn't have this gem of a story. ;) It was a page turner through and through. The ending was very satisfying and left you wanting more!

I bought Twisted last weekend and will begin reading it soon. Since my to-read list is insane...I won't say when that review will be posted, but keep your eyes peeled. ;)

This is the first book that the girls are referred to as "pretty little liars." This is because Ian's body disappeared before anyone else could find it, as well as "seeing" Ali. The girls have no one they can turn to and no one believes them anyway. -A sends clues to Emily that leads her to an Amish community. She discovers that Darren Wilden was once apart of the community, this leads Emily to believe that he may have murdered a girl name Leah. (She was a part of the community and died around the time Ali "returned.") Hanna is sent away to deal with her eating disorder and PTSD. While there she becomes best friend's with her roommate and lead mean girl, Iris. She then learns that Iris knew Ali and may have killed her! Spencer gets some suspicious texts from -A. Spencer learns that her father had an affair with Ali's mother, making Ali and Jason her half siblings! This causes Spencer to suspect her mother of murdering Ali. Spencer tells her parents and learns that her mother had no idea about the affair, this obviously causes more tension in the household. Despite all of the finger pointing, the girls end up arrested for Ali's murder. They are quickly released, when the "real" killer is captured. Billy Ford (a construction worker on Ali's parent's gazebo) is revealed to be the true murderer. He is also believed to be Jenna Cavanaugh's killer. This book ends leaving everyone wondering, if this ending is too simple...could Billy Ford really be -A?

This is another fast-paced book. Hanna's and Spencer's story lines are particularly interesting! You would think with so many books, it would get old---but Sara really knows how to keep her audience entertained. She has a way of leaving you with so many questions and wanting more. I look forward to reviewing the next book, Wanted and reading Twisted and Ruthless. (comes out Dec. 6th this year) So until next time!

Or anything else that catches your fancy! ;)

So on to the review! In Killer, the girls discover that Ian can't be the killer. He is now yet another missing person. You would think that having a crazy killer running around would be enough drama for any one person. Not for these girls!

Emily and her boyfriend, Isaac decide to take their relationship to the next level. This leads to trouble when Isaac's mother finds out and forbids Emily from setting foot in their home. Hanna risks everything for Aria's little brother, Mike! She discovers that there is more than meets the eye. Aria reconnects with Ali's big brother, Jason DiLaurentis. She falls for him all over again. We also discover that Jason gave Aria the missing piece of the flag. Spencer meets a lady, she believes to be her mother. They meet up for dinner and really hit it off. Spencer decides to move to New York to live closer to her "birth" mother, but realizes too late that it was all a scam. She loses all of her money for college.

Emily attends a party at Radley, once a place for troubled youth. She discovers that Jason was once a patient there. The girls realize that Jason and Darren Wilden, must have been involved in Ali's murder. The girls get this confirmed by Ian. During this time Aria decides to tell the girls about the missing flag piece and gets a shocking surprise. The woods behind Spencer's house are on fire. Aria finds someone among the fire and smoke and helps them brave the flames. The biggest shocker of them all....it appears to be Ali!

I remember this is the point in the books where my addiction was further fueled. It's like what the heck?! Ali? Really?! I really enjoyed Spencer's and Aria's parts in this book. I know many people who have wondered if they were adopted. It was interesting to think about this playing out. Aria having the flag piece was a bit unexpected, but entertaining, nonetheless! It was also funny to read about Mike and Hanna...they sort of fit together in a weird way! Emily's story just annoyed me, per usual. Emily started getting boring---once she returned from Iowa.

Any thoughts? Stay tuned next week for my Heartless review!

Wicked brings the return of -A. Just when the girls think everything is about to become normal or as normal as it gets in Rosewood, -A makes a come back! (So someone else knows all the girls secrets!) In this book, each of the girls has there own issues to deal with. One thing that bugs me, is you would think that these girls would learn to confide in one another or seek comfort in each other having the same psycho-stalker....but not so much.

Emily meets a guy named Isaac at church. They start talking and Emily begins to question everything she believes in once again. Hanna is still reeling from the realization that her best friend was -A. She also has to deal with her step-sister stealing her spotlight. This comes to a head at a party, where Hanna tells everyone that Kate has herpes. Hanna's boyfriend overhears and breaks up with her. Hanna is left babysitting Kate. Aria and older guys, it never ends! Aria meets this great guy at an art show. Ella starts talking to this great artsy guy online. If it was any other person, these would be two different people. This is Aria....so it's the same guy. This guy, Xaviar, turns out to be a real jerk. This leaves Aria with only one option, move in with her father and his new preggo wife. Spencer starts thinking she is adopted, and begins investigating her past.

This book was pretty good. The Emily storyline and Aria storyline were a bit annoying. I was more interested in what was happening with Hanna and Spencer in this one. This book has a pretty suspenseful ending, the girls learn that Ian is not the killer. They find Ian's dead body behind Spencer's house. The weird thing is the girls contact the police and have them go to the woods where the body is located, only it's not there. What happen to Ian's body? Did the girls imagine seeing it? Find out in the next book, Killer!

Emotional Cheating

Hello again!

I've had something on my mind and I need to get it out. Ever since I watched Why Did I Get Married Too and read the email from Proverbs 31 Ministries, a topic has been storming in my head. Emotional Affairs. There are so many reasons a marriage ends, I'm not here to talk about when it's right or when it's wrong. I just feel very sad when I hear about a once beautiful couple, ending their marriage...for any reason....but especially when a sacred trust is broken.

WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS!

In Why Did I Get Married Too, we find that Dianne has been having an emotional affair with a co-worker. We are only told that it was emotional, John said that he believes she could have been having a physical affair as well because her husband, Terry, had to pull teeth to get that information from her. Throughout the movie, you see Terry watching his wife and his growing suspicions. One night before bed, he decides to confront her about this. This is after watching her lie provocative lingerie and clothing out for the next day. He knows then for sure that something isn't right. He has noticed a glow about her and a happiness for a few weeks now. She had received flowers earlier in the week at work. There was a card stake in the side, but the from card was removed. She made a lame excuse about how the florist made a mistake, putting that in there. Keep this scenario in mind.

Now here's the scenario from Soul Mates a devotion written by Rachel Olson. In Rachel's story a single woman is contacted by an ex-boyfriend. The ex is married, but they start communicating via phone, computer, etc. They undoubtedly grow close and the ex reveals to the woman that he has feelings for her. The single woman is torn because she knows what she is doing is wrong, but she has also developed feelings for him. In this scenario, the woman stopped seeing the man. Rachel also shares another scenario that doesn't end so well. "Years ago I witnessed a woman begin an emotional affair with a man she “had more in common with” than her husband. Never mind the fact that she had her school-aged children in common with her husband. She was eventually confronted by members of her church, but did not end the relationship. She is divorced today." (From Soul Mates by Rachel Olson)

All of these scenarios are different, but I believe they have a few things in common.

Each one of these women (or in the first case a man) started communicating very personal and intimate details of their lives with someone of the opposite sex, that was not their spouse. This is not to say that you should not have friends of the opposite sex, it is to say that you should be very careful how close you become to them. If you and your spouse is having a marital problems---you should seek a person of the same sex or a counselor. (This is talked about in the devotion and I agree.) When you allow someone to see the intimate most parts of you---not just physically speaking....you are going down a dangerous road, that could lead to physical cheating.

Secondly, and this relates some what to the first. From my understanding of these scenarios, these couples were already having issues. Communication is so important. I feel that it is one of the most important components of a marriage. Your spouse should be the first person you go to (besides God) when struggling in an area, wanting to talk about a life changing issue, etc. When you begin to feel that you can't share these things anymore. You know then that things have changed, and that if you don't work to get that back, you probably won't.

Which brings me to my final point. In my first example, after a horrible accident, involving a close friend. Terry and Dianne decide to work on their marriage. (I'm pretty sure if this didn't happen the two would have likely split up.) After Dianne reveals the truth, Terry is unable to look at Dianne and pushes her away when she tries to hug him. Sometimes when a spouse cheats, the other person involved is able to forgive and the couple decides to stay together. Other times the betrayed party, decides that this infraction is too much. Whatever the case, the same fact remains true, marriage is work. If you go into your marriage with rose-colored glasses and thinking that it will be a cake walk, you will soon get knocked flat on your behind. The good thing is, that if you and your partner are on the same page, they will be there to help you back up.

The devotion goes on to talk about if you are involved in an affair to end it. Remove yourself from anything and everything that feeds that addiction. It goes on to give this sound advice, to those not currently struggling with this issue: "If you are not entangled in this presently, guard yourself from falling into the trap. Be alert to slippery slopes. Don’t go trolling the internet to check on past loves. Beware confiding anything too personal, especially your marriage woes, to members of the opposite sex — find a female friend or counselor to talk to instead. Have an accountability partner periodically ask you how you’re doing in this area. And if you are married, invest in your marriage."

Friday Favorites

Hey everyone!

Hope you are all having a wonderful Friday! I know, I am! :) So today I thought I would introduce a new blog theme. (I did this in an earlier blog with a slightly different format.) I've seen this theme in different ways and on different days for various blogs. So I thought I would join in on the fun.

Each Friday I will post my favorite things for that week. (If I don't have anything to post, I won't. lol Nothing strict about this theme. ;) So on to this weeks fabulous choices!

This past weekend, I went to VA to visit my mother-in-law. (Memorial Day Post on Monday) She had these delicious treats in her candy dish. I've had them before and didn't think much of them. For some reason this weekend, I got hooked! I don't know why they haven't had these babies sooner!

Something you will learn about me is that I'm not a big makeup wearer. When I do wear make up, it's very light. I saw this cute set in Big Lots for like $4.50 and thought it would be fun to try. I really like it! The colors are fun and transfer over easily for day or night wear. I'm pretty happy with my purchase. :)

I started reading this book over the weekend. It's been pretty amazing and really makes me think. It challenges me to be a better person and want more in my life. (I'll probably do a review on it when I finish it.)

I bought this when I was shopping for Mother's day gifts. It smells so fresh and clean. It's a happy scent! :)

I got introduced to Cafe Intermezzo a few weeks ago, when visiting The Shakespeare Tavern. It was amazing! If you ever visit Atlanta, Ga. You must check this place out! I had an almond fudge cake with marshmallow in the middle. It was probably the best cake I've ever had! I also had their peppermint mocha. It was just perfect. (I have these phases where I need to get my peppermint fix in...why not do it with chocolate?!;)

So that's all I have for this week. What are your favorites this week? Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Pirate of the Caribbean:On Stranger Tides (Review)

Hey everyone!

A week or so ago, I went with some friends to see the latest movie in the Pirates series. This movie leaves right where Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End, left off. Captain Barbossa and Jack Sparrow are searching for fountain of youth, but they are not the only ones. This movie introduces the legendary Blackbeard and his daughter.

***SPOILER ALERT***

Pros:

Johnny Depp, seriously the man can do no wrong!

The introduction of Blackbeard...so cool!

The legend of the fountain of youth

The creepy but different take on mermaids

Getting to see Barbossa again

New celeb crush, Sam Claflin!

The quick wit and banter (which is now expected with these movies)

Cons:

The legend of the fountain of youth...I was expecting more and am a big nerd when it comes to explorers and stuff of that nature

Penelope Cruz...ummmm no! I hated how they kept shoving her and Jack Sparrow together and constantly talking about their past. Jack Sparrow should fly solo (or with me) ;)

Syrena and Philip, I just couldn't care less about their storyline...felt like filler material to me.

The movie was uber slow in parts and felt like it really didn't have to be drawn out so long.

The ending was perfect...they could have left it to our imaginations.

BUT no...that would make people think and we wouldn't want that. So we stick a stupid scene at the end of the credits. (Letting us know that there will be another movie and ensuring Penelope Cruz more screen time...ugh!)

*** I'm not sure what I will do if they make another movie. I have even more admiration for Johnny Depp, is that possible?! He said that he wanted to hold off on production of the fifth film because he wanted to keep the movies special. He said that they are special to the audience and also special to him. ***

So what are your thoughts?

A Midsummer Night's Dream, my visit to the Shakespeare Tavern!

Hey everyone,

As I mentioned in a previous post. I got the pleasure of going to The Shakespeare Tavern in Atlanta, Ga. (a few weeks ago) The tavern was performing A Midsummer Night's Dream, my all time favorite Shakespearean play. For those who are not familiar with the play, here's a good summary:
http://www.cliffsnotes.com/WileyCDA/LitNote/A-Midsummer-Night-s-Dream.id-78.html

To begin I have to say that if you are ever in the Atlanta area, be sure to set aside some time to go check out a show. (They keep a show for about 2 months before they move on to another play.)As you walk up to the theatre and open up the doors, it's like stepping back into the past. You are enamored in Shakespeare and his time period. It's hard to believe that this treasure is in the big city of Atlanta. They serve food appropriate to the time period (things such as soups, salads, shepherd's pie, the kings supper sandwich, a variety of desserts and drinks) We didn't eat the meal this time, but I have had their food on a previous visit. Unfortunately, what I had is no longer on the menu. :(

We had balcony seats, which are pretty good. (The theatre only seats about 200 people) The stage is set up like the Globe theatre. It seems to be their goal to keep everything as realistic as possible. I love that! The actors are all local, which doesn't deter from the talent. I was very pleased with their ability and the way they portrayed their parts. My favorite would have to be Puck, the actor seemed to be made for the role. Everyone did a wonderful job and I have to say that the costume design was pretty great as well. It was overall a wonderful experience. My friend that came with me agreed to treat me to a show this month or next for my birthday. I'm so excited and can't wait to go back! :)

Caught up!

Hey everyone,

I'm taking this post to catch up on all things that are going on.

Last Saturday: My hubby and I went to see Gnomeo and Juliet. It was everything I expected and more. It had a couple of adult jokes (no worse than Shrek), and had a good balance. The movie used a lot of music from the 70's. John commented that the writers must have been overly obsessed with gnomes. I agree, and 70's music...lol. It was incredibly cute and very creative. I recommend it! :)

Easter Sunday: Our church is about an hour away and since we were already traveling to my great-grandparents, we were unable to attend the Easter service. :( So I listened to worship music while doing my cooking for the big lunch. I made my vegetable casserole and a strawberry shortcake (that took forever!) We arrived at my great-grandparents---had prayer and ate a big delicious lunch! We don't have any children of Easter egg hunting age (except for my little cousin, Kylie and she wasn't there.) Everyone is looking at me to have the next one, but I'm in no hurry! ;) So I didn't witness any Easter egg hunting this year. Hubby did get me a big jar of jellybeans (my favorite!) to share with everyone. So we spent the day enjoying good food and family. We ended the day by watching "Veggie Tales: Twas the Night Before Easter." It was really cute. I didn't grow up in church, so all things Veggie Tale are new to me. I may be an adult, but I still enjoy a good cartoon, especially one with a good message!

This week has been spent cleaning, school stuff, and volunteer stuff. I had a meeting with the volunteer coordinator at the adult daycare. It went really well. If everything gets processed in time, I should start as early as next week! :) I have a meeting with my advisor next week to do some paperwork and get more information on the program. I unfortunately, have to wait until June to register. It stinks, and I have to pay a fee:/ Oh well! My friend also gave me some info about a possible job opening, so looking into that as well. After a bit of a break from things, it seems that my life is about to get busy again. It feels good! :)

***Last night there was some bad storms in my neck of the woods. I'm thankful that my family and friends are safe. Many have lost their lives, please keep these families in your thoughts and prayers.***

So you are all now caught up on things! I hope to get some pictures of the garden today and post an update tomorrow. You wouldn't believe how fast everything is growing!

21. Would you rather be a worried genius or a joyful simpleton?

This is a tough one. I'm very much a worrier so it would be nice to live joyfully, but I also value my intelligence....hmmm...I don't know if I can choose.

Madea's Big Happy Family and more!

Hey everyone,

Last Thursday: My sister came for a visit and we had a lazy day at the house. We talked and watched random stuff on Netflix. We got delivery and then headed out to grab some needed groceries and I grabbed Mother's Day presents. (For some reason I thought that Mother's day was this Sunday coming up...Oh well, my shopping is done!)

Last Friday: I spent much of the day cleaning and cooking. My mother made a delicious lasagna and brought some breadsticks. I mixed up some salads and made these tasty smore bars from All You. You can check out the recipe here: http://www.allyou.com/food/celebrations/tailgate-party-00411000071952/page9.html

Mine didn't look as perfect as these, but they tasted great! ;)

We then headed to our nearby theatre (Carmike) and saw Madea's Big Happy Family. The story follows a lady named Shirley who receives bad news from her doctor. All she wants is to share this news with her children over dinner. This is easier said than done, all of her children are dealing with various issues of their own and can't seem to put themselves aside to honor her wishes. Of course, until Madea steps in with her brand of antics and humor. The best way I know to describe this movie is to say, that I laughed 95% of the movie and cried the other 5. The best scenes include the drive thru scene with Madea (shown in previews), some scenes with Maury, and of course all the family together. The movie deals with a lot of adult situations and themes, I wouldn't recommend this movie for young children. Overall, it was a movie that lived up to it's predecessors and had the perfect balance of laughs and tears. I would definitely recommend it! ;)

I forgot to answer one of these questions yesterday, so I'll answer two today.

19. If you had to move to a state or country besides the one you currently live in, where would you move and why?

We are actually looking to move next year, places that we are thinking of are: North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, and South Carolina.

North Carolina is our top pick because it would be perfectly in between our parents and we would like to not be too far away from our parents, especially if we have children.

Tennessee is an option because we both love it there and it would also be close to family.

Kentucky is a contender because John has family there.

and lastly, South Carolina is near family as well as friends.

If I moved out of the country, I think I would move to Ireland. I've always wanted to go and it looks serene and beautiful!

20. Do you push the elevator button more than once? Do you really believe it makes the elevator faster?

Most of the time someone gets to the button before I do. I usually try to be patient and only push it once.

Unbelievable Review

Hey all!

Can you believe it's Wednesday once again?! This year seems to be going by pretty fast! Today's review will be of the fourth book in the Pretty Little Liars series Unbelievable. As always if you do not wish to see spoilers...please check out a previous post. Thanks!

When we last left the girls were shocked to find one of their own hit by a car. Hanna was silenced before she was able to reveal the identity of -A. The girls received a creepy text saying "She knew too much." The girls are terrified and realize that -A is willing to do anything to keep his/her secrets safe. Could -A be Ali's killer? How does -A know so much?

Hanna Marin knew -A's identity, now she is lying in a hospital bed. Hanna's face is bruised and she is in a coma. Will she wake up? Will she remember the news she discovered?

Emily didn't "obey" her parent's wishes and instead of being with her friend who needs her. She is sent off to Iowa to live with her very strict aunt and uncle and their children. She is actually able to enjoy herself but to what cost?

Spencer discovers she is having blackouts and she could be Ali's killer. This isn't her only worry, Spencer gets nominated for an award and has to present on the paper she stole from her sister.

Aria loses Ezra and has to stoop to asking her dad and his girlfriend for a place to stay.

Hanna wakes up from her coma and the girls are discouraged to learn that she doesn't remember who -A is. Lucky for Mona, she doesn't remember the nasty way she treated her at her Sweet Seventeen party either. Mona and Spencer team up to throw Hanna a welcome back party. This causes Spencer and Mona to get to know once another and become friends. The party goes well enough until Spencer "realizes" that her sister is -A. Spencer and Mona decide to go report this to the police while Hanna and the rest stay behind to enjoy her party. During the party the girls talk and Hanna begins to remember what happened the night of the car crash. She remembers that Mona is -A! This sends the girls into a bit of a panic as they try to contact Spencer to warn her. Spencer does her best to reveal where she is to the girls. Mona realizes what's going on and throws Spencer's phone out the car window. Mona and Spencer finally arrive at Floating Man Quarry, an eerie place where it is said a boy's ghost still haunts. Mona tries to convince Spencer to join her and they can rule the school together. Spencer refuses and they fight. Spencer and Mona struggle and both nearly fall. Mona does and is killed instantly. During the squabble, Spencer learns that Ali's diary reveals that Ali had given Ian an ultimatum the night she went missing. She wanted to meet with Ian and he agree to break up with Melissa before her trip to Prague (All of these facts are slowly pieced together in the book. ) If Ian didn't agree, she would reveal that they were dating. This gives Ian motive and it's revealed that Ian is now the number one suspect in Ali's murder. The last scene in this book, shows the girls going to the court house for Ian's hearing. The girls watch as Ian pleads not guilty and are able to get some relief as this is now all over. Emily thinks she see's Ali in a car on their way out of the court house. She keeps this to herself.

This book was fast-paced and full of energy. You feel very sad to read that Hanna is in a coma. Hanna is one of my favorite characters and she is so full of life. It seems wrong for a portion of the book for her not to really be interacting with everyone. Emily's trip to Iowa was pretty interesting but what was even more interesting was her parents acceptance of her once she returned. Sometimes it takes losing---nearly losing someone for people to realize the damage done. This seems to wake people up. There was so much in this one book it's hard to remember to put it all in the summary and I know I left out a ton of details. One was how Jenna and Aria bonded through art class. Aria learned that Jenna wasn't so bad, but also that Ali and Jenna had a sort of friendship. Spencer had a lot of realizations in this book as well. I imagine it's pretty scary to find out you have black outs and think you may have killed your best friend. She also had to lie and the crazy thing is she was led to believe all of this by her parents! In the end I was glad to see her stick up for what is right. The realization that -A was Mona was pretty huge. I had suspected her for awhile, but when she started receiving the texts also, that threw me off the trail. Ian's arrest was sad. I really thought Melissa was guilty. As I said before this book was great. I hate that there was so many details that I can't fit them all in. This book had ALOT going on. So stay tune next week for my review of book 5, Wicked!

17. What is one thing have you not done that you really want to do? What’s holding you back?

I want to one day be a mother. I feel that in a few years this will happen, right now I'm growing and learning about myself with my hubby. I also hope that we will be more financially stable by then.

Perfect Review

Hey everyone,

It's Wednesday...so you know what that means?! Time to continue with my review of The Pretty Little Liars series. As always if you do not wish to read spoilers, check out one of my previous posts. :)

In Flawless, the girls are left more confused than ever. Their prime suspect is now dead and the texts and blackmailing continue.

One of the main focuses of Perfect is a scene from one of Aria's videos. The group is all together playing talk show. This is important because we gather more information on Alison, Ali's personality. It still doesn't make sense why the girls allow her to talk to them so disrespectfully. Other than the fact, that she took interest in them and said she wanted to be friends. This also shows Spencer interacting with Ian and her sister's apparent annoyance by this.

The girls trouble continues as they always have secrets to hide.

Spencer begins having memories of the night Ali disappeared. Everyone knows that they had an argument, but did Spencer kill Ali? All of these realizations don't help Spencer, as she is struggling to keep her perfect student image. So to make things easier, Spencer steals one of her sister's Economics papers.

Aria struggles to keep her dad's affair a secret from her mother and brother. This works well, until Aria decides to ignore a request from -A. -A reveals the affair to Aria's mother and she kicks her husband out. Aria is also struggling with feelings for two very different guys. (Aria's current boyfriend, Sean and Aria's AP English teacher, Ezra) Sean is a sweet guy, who allows Aria to move in after Aria's mother finds out she knew about the affair. He is a good comfort in the midst of the storm, but Aria can't deny her feelings for Ezra. Aria finally realizes this and makes plans to break things off with Sean. Unfortunately, Sean finds out about the relationship and Ezra is arrested. Aria is left with a broken heart and wondering where she will go now...?

Emily can't shake her feelings for Maya, but isn't ready to make their relationship public. These feelings intensify when she learns that her parents don't want her hanging around Maya because they are blatantly racist. Unfortunately, -A doesn't mind, and plasters pictures of Emily and Maya kissing at a party. Emily's parents don't know how to deal with this news and tell her she has two options. She can join a group called Tree Tops, that is supposed to help you to become straight or move to Iowa and live with her strict aunt and uncle, as well as her cousins.

Hanna has to throw the best Sweet Seventeen party ever for her best friend, Mona. Otherwise her social status will be on shaky ground. Unfortunately, things don't go according to plan. Hanna and Mona have a series of misunderstandings and Mona excludes her from outings and her court for the party. Hanna spends this time getting to know Lucas, a guy she would normally never talk to. Hanna believes that Mona has forgiven her when she sees the court dress on her bed. Hanna gets dressed and heads to the party, despite the fact that she already has plans with Lucas. Mona and Hanna face off at the party and Hanna realizes that -A sent the dress. (Mona and Hanna are wearing the exact same dress and the girls in the court are wearing different dresses) This causes Mona to be furious with Hanna. Hanna is then embarrassed when her dress rips revealing her underwear in front of everyone. Lucas comes in and saves the day. Towards the end of the book, Hanna gets a text from -A, he/she has slipped up and sent the text from a familiar phone. Hanna contacts the other girls and they plan to meet at their spot, so she can reveal the name. Hanna doesn't get a chance as she is hit by a car. The girls look on in horror and they receive an eerie text that says "She knew too much."

This book kicks up the juice. It's even more of a page turner than the first two! This book leaves you wondering about Spencer. Is she capable of murder? Could she do that to her best friend, even if they were competitive? What really happened that night? Aria is left with nothing. The strange thing about Aria is that she is so much like her father. She doesn't even see it. They say that people struggle with the same issues as their parents...this is made very believable in this book. Emily is put in a terrible position in this book. I feel very bad for her. The one person she can talk to, she is not allowed to see. Emily's parents frustrate me ALOT. I understand that they don't agree with her lifestyle and don't know how to deal with it, but their solutions are horrible and I believe won't solve anything. Hanna gets the worst of it though. The girls are left terrified and know that if you don't play by -A's rules someone will get hurt.

Stay tuned! Next Wednesday reviewing book 4 Unbelievable!

13. Would you break the law to save a loved one?

This would depend on the circumstances. If anyone I know killed someone or harmed themselves, I would have to report it. I wouldn't want them to harm themselves or another person. This I feel would better benefit them than me pretending to be a good friend and "helping" them.

Flawless Review

Hey everyone!

It's that time again, time to review book 2 in the Pretty Little Liars series. ***Just a warning if you wish to read the books, and/or haven't read the first and second books, you may want to stop reading from here on. This may contain spoilers.***

The first book leaves us with the four friends discovering that -A (the evil blackmailer) can't be Alison, their long lost friend because Alison's body is discovered buried outside her home. The girls get one last taunting text before the book ends. This leaves all readers wondering...who is -A? Why is he/she doing this?

Flawless picks up right where Pretty Little Liars leaves off. The girls continue to receive texts, but now the girls have a new suspect. Toby Cavanaugh. The girls suspect Toby because of an incident that happened with his sister, Jenna. The girls refer to this as "The Jenna Thing." He was the only other person besides the girls involved.

In this book, each girl has a specific secret(s) that she wishes to not be revealed. Emily is unsure about her feelings for her new best friend Maya. She also struggles with feelings of guilt over Alison. Spencer finds herself constantly flirting with temptation and her sister's boyfriends. Aria is keeping a secret that could destroy her family as well as a secret love. Hanna is excited that her dad is back in her life, but she soon realizes that it's not what it seems.

Throughout this book, the girls heavily suspect Toby and are eager to find an end to the madness. Just when the girls think they have -A all figured out, they find Toby's body.(He had committed suicide) Emily and Toby had attended a social event together. They have a misunderstanding and Emily suspects that Toby is -A. Toby tries very hard to explain to Emily his secret. The girls later learn that Toby abused his sister, Jenna. Alison found out about this and so she promised to keep this secret for him. If he would return the favor for her. This is why he killed himself, he thought that Emily had stumbled upon his secret. The book ends with the girls right back where they started and still not knowing who -A is.

This book was just as engrossing as the first. The characters are developing more and you feel like you are better understanding of why they do the things they do. You want very badly for the girls to see some peace, but then that would end us with two books. (Honestly, there is so much more to come, that I don't think you could do the series justice with two books) This book added to my curiosity of Alison. It makes you want to know more about who she was and why the girls were so hypnotized by her...? I also felt especially sorry for Toby. It seemed that through his whole life, no one really understood him. When he dies it also, gives you the eerie feeling that this is far from over for the girls and what horrors are in store for them next?!

Well that's all for this week. Stay tuned! I'll be reviewing book 3, Perfect next Wednesday. :)

10. Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?

I'd like to say that I'm more worried about doing the right things, but I also realize that I struggle with being a perfectionist. I do realize that being perfect is impossible and doing things the best of my ability is far better an accomplishment. I hope that I can continue to realize that I do make mistakes, but also I can learn from those mistakes. This can help me to be a better person and push my focus to doing what is right.

Pretty Little Liars Review

Hey everyone!

I’ve decided to start my review of the Pretty Little Liars series. There are a total of 8 books, so I will review one book each week until I have reviewed them all.

*** Please note I do not watch the tv series and do not know much about it. I have heard the books and tv series are different.***

The first book in the series is called “Pretty Little Liars.” This book introduces the girls and gives a little of the back story of their friendship with the former queen bee, Alison DiLaurentis. The girls are not sure why Alison chooses them to be her new best friends, but they enjoy every minute of it....that is until the night of their seventh grade sleepover. Spencer (one of the girls) gets into an argument with Alison. Alison leaves followed by Spencer, only Alison never returns. So what happened to Alison? The search begins, but to no avail.

Years pass and the girls lose touch. Aria moves to Iceland, shedding her awkward seventh grade self. She is now looked at as a sophisticated artsy type. Emily is a champion swimmer. Spencer is a dedicated straight A student and has a good chance of becoming valedictorian. Hanna is now the most popular girl in school.

The girls look as if they have the ideal lives. In the town of Rosewood, looks can be deceiving. The girls start getting texts from a mysterious person who signs off simply as A. Is this person Alison? Whoever this person is they know an awful lot about each of the girls. The girls begin to reconnect as they realize they are all getting these blackmailing texts. What will the girls do? How can they keep their secrets safe? Find out in the first book;)

This book was wonderful. It instantly drew me in. I don’t know if it’s because of the similarities to Mean Girls or what, but I can say this…Alison DiLaurentis is much meaner than Regina George. I also love a good mystery---The book starts you out with 2 questions: What happened to Alison? And Who is A?

I highly recommend this series and look forward to reviewing each book. I’m not getting paid to say any of this. These are just my thoughts and opinions.

Question 5: What is the one thing you’d most like to change about the world?

I wish that people were more compassionate and understanding of the people around them. A horrible tragedy happened in our community yesterday, the newspaper had the article up online. This was fine, but they enabled comments. This allowed people to say how they felt about what happened. At first the comments were about praying for the families involved, things of that nature. Then people started arguing over petty details. It made me feel very sad.
