My heart is in Georgia...

Yesterday, my mom called me to inform me that my great-grandfather (or as I have always known him, pawpaw) was admitted to the hospital. He had severe kidney and bladder infections. The doctors were administering medication and trying to fight off the infection. I was worried, but knew that my pawpaw was/is a fighter.

Late last night, all of the family was called in. Pawpaw's heart had stopped. They were able to stabilize him, but  being in his 90's it was pretty scary. He has refused a pace maker (which they have asked him to do before.) I believe that he is making the right decision, at his age it is hard to say if he would survive the surgery.

The last update I received from my mother is that they are trying to stabilize him enough to send him home and then they will need to get hospice involved. They had once believed he had suffered a heart attack and now are thinking that his heart is just tired and that's what's going on. With cases like these, he could live another year or two or he could live another couple of weeks...there's really no way of knowing. We have experienced this before with his last visit to the hospital, but it never truly prepares you for what may come. Right now, as far as I know, he seems to be alert when he is awake and was able to eat some soup and pudding.

So right now my heart is in Georgia. I can't be there, but all I can think of is my family and wishing I could do more to comfort everyone. Please keep my pawpaw and family in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks!

<3 Anna
