The Not-So-Lovely Fruit

Hey guys,

John and I have been working on crossing off things on our Summer Bucket List. For this post, I'm sharing about the "new" to us fruit we tried.

The Ugli Fruit.
So John and I were grabbing a few essentials in Walmart and we decided to check out the produce section, and look what we found! The name and appearance of this fruit definitely got our attention.

So tonight, we decided to give the ugli fruit a try.
Ugli fruit is a citrus fruit that was created by "hybridizing" a grapefruit, an orange, and a tangerine. The Ugli fruit's origins are from Jamaica and that is mainly where it is found today. Ugli fruit are seasonal from December to April. They are found in the United States and Europe between November and April. (And sometimes July to September)

My thoughts:
The rind of the Ugli fruit is tough and ugly. The inside has an orange-like appearance and has a sweeter than an orange taste. It's juicy and quite tasty! This is definitely an example of "Don't judge a book by it's cover."

John's thoughts:
Amazing, energy-infused fruit! The fruit is ugly on the outside and delicious on the inside. You just have to get through a thick layer of pulp. It is much thicker than the pulp of a grapefruit, orange, etc.

Sophie's thoughts:
She liked the juice in the fruit, but not the pulp. (We didn't plan to share with Sophie, but I dropped some and she became another critic!)

So what do you think of the Ugli fruit? Have you ever tried it? Would you try it?
