A Midsummer Night's Dream, my visit to the Shakespeare Tavern!

Hey everyone,

As I mentioned in a previous post. I got the pleasure of going to The Shakespeare Tavern in Atlanta, Ga. (a few weeks ago) The tavern was performing A Midsummer Night's Dream, my all time favorite Shakespearean play. For those who are not familiar with the play, here's a good summary:

To begin I have to say that if you are ever in the Atlanta area, be sure to set aside some time to go check out a show. (They keep a show for about 2 months before they move on to another play.)As you walk up to the theatre and open up the doors, it's like stepping back into the past. You are enamored in Shakespeare and his time period. It's hard to believe that this treasure is in the big city of Atlanta. They serve food appropriate to the time period (things such as soups, salads, shepherd's pie, the kings supper sandwich, a variety of desserts and drinks) We didn't eat the meal this time, but I have had their food on a previous visit. Unfortunately, what I had is no longer on the menu. :(

We had balcony seats, which are pretty good. (The theatre only seats about 200 people) The stage is set up like the Globe theatre. It seems to be their goal to keep everything as realistic as possible. I love that! The actors are all local, which doesn't deter from the talent. I was very pleased with their ability and the way they portrayed their parts. My favorite would have to be Puck, the actor seemed to be made for the role. Everyone did a wonderful job and I have to say that the costume design was pretty great as well. It was overall a wonderful experience. My friend that came with me agreed to treat me to a show this month or next for my birthday. I'm so excited and can't wait to go back! :)
